Notes for Lilidots Meetup Event Organisers (08/04/24)
As organisers are not qualified mountain leaders the responsibilities for the group are to:
Be certain that the walk you are offering to organise is within your own capabilities or pair up with someone who has the right level of experience.
Highlight on your walk description a link to this website, for example "For your safety and wellbeing go to www.lilidots.weebly.com" to ensure everyone has the opportunity to be aware they are responsible for themselves. If you wish you may add more explicit details about your (non-leadership) role in your walk description.
Provide all essential details about your walk so that everyone is fully informed.
The app will help by prompting you to fill out details of time and place to meet. Be very clear in the walk description to include details of car parking, description of the route, the level of difficulty/distance, amount of height to be climbed, warm clothing, waterproofs, walking poles, gaiters, lunch and drink, and type of footwear.
You might want to provide your phone number for last minute emergency contact or you may prefer to personally message only those attending, the night before, through the Meetup app.
You can set a limit on numbers attending to keep it at a size you feel comfortable with. You need to consider the size of car parking areas, the time of year for weather, the amount of available daylight, the difficulty or length of walk especially for slower walkers to include lunch and rest stops.
Depending on conditions, and number of route junctions you may consider appointing a trusted person to remain at the back to ensure no one loses the main group. Encourage everyone to be safety conscious, keeping together, aware of others lagging behind and sharing in regular head counts.
You may offer or be asked to help facilitate travel or car sharing.
Remind anyone who asks that we have a no dog policy. Guide dogs excepted.
State the donation amount for the Meetup subscription (currently £2.00).
Check out local cafes for regrouping after the walk and if possible put it in the walk description
